Learn Dutch by playing.

Good to know

What level is Bitterballen for?

Complete beginners. You start at zero (or take a short placement test) and work through CEFR level A1, the level of everyday basics: greetings, food, shopping, home, family, time and weather. Higher levels, A2 first, follow.

Does it help with the inburgering exam?

A1 covers the everyday words and sentences the exams build on, and you practise reading, writing, listening and speaking. Exam-style practice is planned for the higher levels.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Add it to your home screen and it keeps working without internet, audio included, once you've opened your lesson.

Do I need an account? What about my privacy?

No account. Your progress stays on your device. We count anonymous usage to improve the games, and you can switch even that off in the settings. Read the privacy page.

Is it really free?

Yes: all of A1 is free, with no ads and no trial that runs out.
